Under the boundless sky and sun,
With endless blues and greens,
A tapestry of colour spun,
The most pleasant of scenes.
A crowd of life had come to bare,
A myriad of beasts,
To share in this joyous affair –
This bountiful of feasts!
But off alone under the shade
The ant-eater looked out.
Without a friend this mass arrayed
Had filled her mind with doubt.
Will they make fun of my long nose
Or laugh at my short tail?
And what about my unkempt toes,
With long and ugly nails?
But in her anxious state she missed,
The ants under her feet.
Within her mind her fears persist –
Eyeless, they miss the treat.
If she had just looked to the ground
And broken envy’s trance,
She’d see the wealth that could be found,
The gems within her glance.
