Blossom’s Kiss

There’s a cherry blossom in the park I’ve sat under for three summers now. Three summers from three very turbulent years. This is for that cherry blossom.

I’d sing to thee oh cherry tree,
If you could hear my song.
I call to you in luscious sea,
In hopes you’ll sing along.

For in this song you’re sure to see
The burdens that you bare,
Are faced as well in kind by me,
If you’ve a moment spare.

I know to you it must seem strange
To sing in my duet,
That unlike you I’ve time to change
And fate is mine as yet.

But lend a branch that you might know
My leaves are fragile too,
They break before they’ve chance to grow;
These tears, my morning dew.

Like you I watch as life goes by,
And try my best to bloom.
I stand below a wounded sky
And wilt in empty gloom.

Like you I reach for eager heights
And dream of naked skies,
To feast it’s boundless sacred lights
And glide through heaven’s highs.

Though as you know, I’m sure too well,
The heavens give and take.
Amongst our joy dark clouds can swell
And leave a chilling wake.

But unlike yours my world’s detached
From tempest over head,
The storms I face in force unmatched
Engulf my soul instead.

Yes here alas our union ends,
Despite all that we share.
Though joined by song two kindred friends
Our differences still glare.

Come summer’s end your leaves will drop
But rooted there you stay.
For me I’m reaped like pleasure’s crop
That’s harvested each day.

With grievous swing of winter’s scythe
I’m torn from earth anew.
My spirit bled and left to writhe,
Forsaken and askew.

The roots I laid to brace my mind
Are cut and cleaved apart.
The seeds I sowed with love entwined
Are broken with my heart.

But while I sit under your shade
And join with you in song,
I feel renewed, my troubles fade
And know where I belong.

Your beauty shines in gorgeous hue
With stems ornate and fine,
Resplendent from the day you grew
In elegant design.

Would that I could have one taste,
Of such undoubted praise;
I envy you who nature graced
Her fawning loving gaze.

But in this moment you and I,
Can sing in sunlight’s bliss.
Although we’re joined in passing by,
We share this blossom’s kiss.
